Dr. Saeed Akhtar has done his MBBS, MS in Gen Surgery and MCh in Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery from King George Medical College, Lucknow, India. Thereafter he has served in Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi and Malhotra Heart Institute, New Delhi as Chief Cardiac Surgeon. He has been a fellow at the Thorax Centre, Uppsala University, Sweden. Presently he is serving Regency Hospital Kanpur (INDIA) as a Chief Cardiac Surgeon. Dr. Saeed Akhtar specializes in Adult Cardiac Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery and Peripheral Vascular Surgery. Professional Experience

  • Worked in Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi for about four and half years. During this period, I have been actively involved in all surgical and academic activities of the institute. I participated in more than 3500 open-heart surgeries as first or second assistant and performed more than 1500 open-heart surgeries independently at Escorts. This includes almost all types of adult cardiac surgeries e.g. CABG, valve surgery, repair of congenital defects and aortic root surgery. I have full exposure of pre and postoperative management of cardiac patients.

  • Worked as Fellow Cardiac Surgeon in UPPSALA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, SWEDEN for a period of three months (from 1st Sept. 1995 to 30th Nov., 1995) where I was actively involved in all surgeries and done few open-heart surgeries independently.

  • Worked as Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Malhotra Heart Institute, New Delhi for a period of three years (from April 1996 to March 1999) where I was involved with the establishment of the Cardiac Surgery Unit and starting the surgical program. I performed about 250 surgeries there.

  • Performed more than 700 off-pump bypass surgeries (OPCAB). I have the distinction of doing first Off-Pump CABG in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

  • Performed bypass surgery on a Pakistani patient who came all the way to Kanpur (INDIA) for his treatment. We are routinely getting patients from Nepal.

  • Being a part of Trauma Unit, I am doing a lot of Thoracic Surgeries and Limb – salvage vascular surgeries which are quite commonly seen in the city of Kanpur (INDIA).

  • Submitted thesis for M.S. examination in surgery (1987) entitled "A STUDY OF ANTITHYROGLOBULIN AND ANTIMICROSOMAL ANTIBODIES IN VARIOUS THYROID DISORDERS".

  • Article entitled "ANTITHYROID ANTIBODIES IN SIMPLE GOITRE IN AND AROUND LUCKNOW" published in "SURGERY", Vol.1. July 1987, P.37.

  • Submitted thesis for MCh Examination in Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery (1990) entitled "PULMONARY EFFECTS OF VARIOUS TYPES OF SMOKES".
